Why is it that makeup artist can't follow the simplest instructions?
I tell them exactly what I want the makeup on my models to be and this is what I say:
Don't color or bleach their hair
Don't give them abnormal inhumanly fake lashes.
Don't brighten their dark skin.
Don't darken their light skin.
Just style their hair.
Don't let them come out with ashy or dry skin.
It's pretty obvious that I only want the natural look and yet some makeup artist don't get it. In the modeling world its like a disease if a human looks to human.
Some people in the industry think they know best and tend to do what THEY want rather than listen to the client. Unfortunately it is sometimes unavoidable. Your best bet is to find a makeup artist who listens to what you say and to hire them for all of your jobs.
